In December 1984, a farmer in Missouri stumbles upon the lifeless body of Sean Cavaness, a young man who has been shot twice in the head and left on the roadside. St. Louis Police quickly launch an investigation to track down the murderer, only to find their main suspect is Sean's own father, Dr. John Dale Cavaness. Known as 'Dr. Dale,' he is celebrated in Eldorado, Illinois, for providing free medical care to those in need. The community struggles to reconcile their image of the compassionate doctor with the notion that he could kill his son. However, as detectives dig deeper into his background, they uncover a troubling history of violence and mounting financial woes.
