Episode Overview
The episode opens with a distressed ship at sea, and as a telescope shatters, it frees a man. He emerges from the fog at a San Francisco dock and steps into a bar, where he stands in a puddle that instantly freezes, followed by the entire bar. He cries out “Carolyn” before collapsing. Afterward, he's taken to the hospital, where the machines and beds begin to freeze, accompanied by a small tremor. Rachel arrives to assess his condition, and the doctor presents her with a pristine 19th-century book found with him. They share a brief encounter before he breaks free, spotting a toy boat in a store window that triggers memories of the troubled ship. Rachel and Alex then head to the bar where he collapsed, experiencing another mini-earthquake. Sensing he’s close, they reunite and Rachel assures him she’ll help him uncover his past, giving him the name John Doe.
