Episode Overview

Dr. Mike offers help to Red McCall, a struggling cowboy, and his sickly half-breed infant. At his wit's end, McCall robs Loren's store and leaves the baby in Michaela's care, believing she can find a good home for him. However, her efforts to place the child are unsuccessful. While visiting a remote cabin to check on its owner’s health, she discovers him severely injured from a bear attack. A startled bear sends her horse fleeing, trapping her in the cabin until Sully arrives, and they barely escape the frenzied animal. Back in town, Dr. Mike opts to raise the baby herself instead of sending him to an orphanage, but Sully finds Red and persuades him to take the child back.
