Episode Overview

A group of black cavalry soldiers arrives in town, eager to earn recognition by taking down the Dog Soldiers who have been attacking the railroad. In a bold act of civil disobedience, Mike warns the Indians, leading to a violent clash that ends in defeat for the Buffalo soldiers. Accused of treason and imprisoned, Mike is ultimately cleared by the proud cavalry leader, Sergeant Zachary Carver, who, with the help of Sully and Mike, realizes that his troops are merely instruments in the U.S. Army’s genocidal agenda against the Indians. To return the favor, Mike orchestrates a fake death for the Sergeant, allowing him to escape a court martial. Meanwhile, Colleen cheats on a test and wins a school trip to Washington. Mike finds herself explaining the difference between “good lying,” which serves a principled cause, and “bad lying,” which reflects Colleen’s selfish motives.
