S02E16 The Orphan Train
Episode Overview
Eight orphans arrive by train, and the Reverend welcomes them into the church while Mike tends to their health needs. When no one in town expresses interest in adopting them, the Reverend proposes marriage to Mike so they can raise the children together. Mike briefly considers this, prompting Sully to confront her about her feelings. She accuses him of lacking commitment, unlike the Reverend, to which Sully hints that he might be willing to offer more than just marriage. Ultimately, Mike declines the Reverend’s proposal, much to Sully’s and the Cooper kids’ relief. As the orphans leave town, they do so transformed by their experiences. Dr. Mike realizes she can't save everyone, and she along with the Cooper kids emerge as a tighter-knit family.
