Grand Designs Australia (2010)

S02E07 Stonyfell Watertank

May 17, 2012 Season 2 Episode 7 Documentary

Episode Overview

Living in Adelaide, Australia's driest capital, has inspired Mike Dare and his wife, Lowen Partridge, to become committed to water conservation. They chose to install two unique water tanks in their new home. These aren’t ordinary tanks; they’re enormous, custom steel anchors that elevate the house above the ground. The roof functions as a massive funnel, capable of capturing and storing 100,000 liters of water in tanks cleverly concealed behind internal walls. With four decades of experience in design and engineering for Adelaide’s notable structures, Mike is known for his innovative thinking. Now, he needs to ensure the project is visually appealing, ideally in his favorite shade—grey. Preferring to maintain full control, Mike is taking on the roles of architect, engineer, and project manager. However, he faces challenges beyond his control, including unpredictable weather, scheduling issues, the financial troubles of his walling company, and, most critically, Lowen's thoughts on the color grey.
