In his quest to reconnect with Shelly, Draven finds himself at her gravesite, where he unexpectedly encounters the ghost of a young boy named Casey Thompson, who seems to be visible only to him. The six-year-old spirit is feeling isolated and is anxious about his father, Jake Thompson, a stunt motorcyclist known as "the World's Greatest Daredevil." Jake is preparing for a dangerous jump over 30 cars for a pay-per-view event run by a dubious promoter, Royal Boyd. Despite Draven's warnings, Jake dismisses the idea that his son is trying to reach out. After a tragic accident claims the life of Jake's stunt mechanic, Draven feels the urge to step in, even as Detective Albrecht and his probing new partner, Jessica Capshaw, investigate the incident. Draven finally convinces Jake to allow him to take on the jump, believing he can survive where Jake might not. They exchange tokens, but the situation escalates when Draven is suddenly kidnapped
