The portal to the loft has disappeared, leaving Eric Draven unable to reach Shelly, which deepens his despair. In a bid to lift his spirits, Sarah recommends he see a psychiatrist for hypnosis. Under Dr. John Dorsett's guidance, Eric delves into a traumatic past as a Native American named Blackfeather. Blackfeather's history is just as harrowing; he fell in love with a missionary's daughter who defied her prejudiced father to be with him, only to meet a tragic end. Returning to protect Rebecca Morgan, who strikingly resembles Shelly, he faces the men who took his life. While Sarah questions Eric's sanity during the session, Jane Cogo, a Native American grad student, verifies the authenticity of his dialect. Unfortunately, Eric remains trapped in hypnosis, with Blackfeather seemingly unable to return to the present.
