In Nebraska, Kimble secures a job as a construction worker, only to be recognized by Alex "Pat" Patton, a controversial contractor infamous for a theater collapse that claimed the lives of three children. Though Pat was acquitted of manslaughter, the community has harbored resentment against him for years. Now facing financial crisis, Pat is investing his resources into a dubious "motel" under construction. He confronts Kimble, revealing he knows his identity from a wanted poster. With a heart condition giving him a month to live, Pat coerces Kimble to ensure his survival until the motel's completion, threatening to expose him if he tries to escape.
