Mexico: One Plate at a Time (2003)
S08E04 Presenting, World-Class Wines of Baja
Episode Overview
Baja California Norte is home to exceptional, award-winning wines, a fact that might catch many in the United States off guard. Rick embarks on a journey through the region with the esteemed winemaker Hugo d’Acosta, the visionary behind La’Escuelita, a nonprofit winemaking school established in 2004. Hugo shares his Casa de Piedra wines with Rick and takes him on a tour of the school, where locals and chefs create their own blends. At Tres Mujeres, a delightful winery operated by three women, Rick samples their wines paired with favorite dishes, which inspires him to whip up stuffed chiles with red wine at home. Rick also meets Camillo Magoni at L.A. Cetto, who shares insights from his 47 years at one of Mexico's oldest wineries. Finally, Rick cooks alongside Ludwig Hussong from San Rafael Winery in Valle de Ojos Negros, celebrating the wines of Mexico.
