Episode Overview
Realizing the gravity of her past actions, Maud understands that she must break free from Mrs. Sucksby to save Sue. After managing to escape, she seeks help from an old associate of her uncle's, but he turns her away. Alone and vulnerable in the dark alleys of London, Maud falls victim to predators and ultimately decides to return to Lant Street. Mrs. Sucksby greets her with delight, revealing that Maud is actually her daughter. Meanwhile, using the cunning she learned in her childhood, Sue escapes from the asylum and heads to London, intent on seeking revenge on Maud for her perceived betrayal. When Sue confronts Maud, Mrs. Sucksby, and Rivers at the house, a fierce argument erupts, resulting in Rivers' death during the scuffle. Although Maud is culpable, Mrs. Sucksby takes the blame to shield both girls and is soon executed for the crime.
