Episode Overview
After dealing with Sue, Rivers takes Maud to Mrs. Sucksby's residence in London. There, Maud discovers that Mrs. Sucksby orchestrated her escape and Sue's downfall. She is consumed by guilt over how she treated Sue and the fabricated life she portrayed. Orphaned and raised by her cruel uncle, Maud endured abuse that hardened her heart. The innocent-seeming readings in his library were anything but; she was coerced into reading pornography to him and his associates. Desperate for freedom, Maud saw marriage to Rivers as her escape. Yet, she never anticipated the profound bond she formed with Sue or that she would fall in love with her. To break free from her uncle, Maud felt she had no choice but to betray Sue, unaware that her life would soon spiral even further into chaos.
