Episode Overview
Trouble brews at the Long Branch when a hidecutter stirs up chaos, prompting Matt to intervene and throw him out of town. Later, when Festus goes to fetch Dr. Chapman, he discovers the old scudder has returned. Unable to resist the temptation, he invites Doc for a drink, leading to an unexpected reunion at the Long Branch. While everyone is thrilled to see Doc, Matt is out patrolling the town and is shot in the back by the very hidecutter he expelled. As Doc realizes that removing the bullet could risk paralyzing Matt, he contacts a surgeon in Denver. Together with Kitty, Festus, and Newly, they load Matt onto a train’s baggage car, embarking on a journey to save him along with a Federal gold shipment.
