Cora is upset, feeling deceived by the revelation that Mr. Wolfe is of Indian descent. As Cicero Wolfe continues his defense, the lawyer's objections highlight the lack of substantial evidence. Cora worries that the outcome of the case could harm her father, regardless of the verdict. She believes her dad may have contributed to her mother's tragic end. Mr. Wolfe concludes his argument, and Bear comes to the realization that Cora was right, still holding feelings for her. Mr. Wolfe then expresses his long-standing affection for a friend.
