Bill and Ted's fathers inform them that their allowance won't be increasing, leaving the duo in a financial bind. At the Kozy Korner, Rufus meets them and shows off a malfunctioning Wyld Stallyns hologram that’s lost its sound. He needs their help to identify the missing song. To fund their rehearsals, they seek part-time jobs at the San Dimas Mall but realize their lack of experience is a barrier. They decide to travel to France to learn about baking and find Marie Antoinette in tears due to her chefs quitting. They offer to bake her birthday cake in exchange for a recommendation. After borrowing fire from Jacques and Joseph Montgolfier for baking, they accidentally send their phone booth on a wild ride with Marie, who mistakes the crowd below for admirers and tosses cake to them, proclaiming, "Let them eat cake!" She writes a recommendation in the frosting, and they continue to Venice, where they become gondola taxi hacks. Their
