Episode Overview

Title: Endangered Species Plot: David Stockwell, a man with a mental disability, lives with his elderly mother. One night, he hears barking dogs in the woods and ventures out, unaware that his mother is trailing behind. Tragically, she becomes the victim of a hit-and-run when a Land Rover strikes her. David races to a nearby pub, where Nick and Kate assist in getting her to the hospital. When questioned about the incident, David initially mentions the dogs and the vehicle, but his story shifts the next morning, claiming his mother merely fell. Nick suspects she might be shielding someone and visits her at the hospital, where she also maintains her fall story. Meanwhile, David discovers an injured badger in the woods and, with Kate’s help, rehabilitates it. Nick, on the other hand, investigates the possibility that the Land Rover belonged to badger baiters, especially after Claude points out a recently disturbed badger set near David’s home.
