Episode Overview
Alf is in deep trouble with his gambling debts and reluctantly turns to Nick for a loan using Kate's insurance as collateral. Initially, Nick is skeptical, but after a discussion the next day, they devise a discreet plan to handle the situation without Blaketon finding out. Alf's creditor, Charlie, is involved in a scheme with stolen wine. When the wine is discovered, Alf assures Charlie that he won't reveal its location if he gets his IOUs back. Nick and Alf then set a trap for the thieves, leading to their capture. Meanwhile, Jo encourages Nick to consider a promotion, but he expresses contentment with his current role. In a separate subplot, Lord Ashfordly has Claude working as an unpaid gamekeeper after catching him poaching his birds, quipping to Nick, "It takes a thief to catch a thief, Rowan!"
