John Gillman, pursued by a posse and shot in the leg, manages to flee by jumping into a river. Downstream, he is discovered by a young orphan named Abigail, who finds him on the brink of unconsciousness. She quickly forms a bond with him, but he initially tries to push her away. As circumstances unfold, however, his feelings begin to shift.
