Tom and Chris' friendship faces a serious test when Chris discovers a fifty-year-old journal in her basement. The journal, belonging to a young woman, recounts a tragic love story that ends in murder. Eager to seek justice, Chris asks Tom to uncover the identity of the killer. Although the journal lacks names, Tom deduces that the author is a local spinster, someone you'd never suspect of harboring a dark secret for half a century. When Chris learns the woman's identity, she urges Tom to halt the investigation, unwilling to see her punished. Torn between loyalty to his friend and the pursuit of justice, Tom finds himself at odds with Chris, who fiercely defends the woman while he feels compelled to pursue the case.
