Jonesy's views on the importance of parenthood are put to the test when he forms a bond with a troubled young mother. After he and Tess find a newborn baby left alone, their search for answers brings them to a local schoolgirl who insists there is no baby. Gaining her confidence, Jonesy learns that she has been a victim of rape. As their inquiries point to a suspect with a history of violence, Jonesy persuades the girl to speak out and encourages her to think twice about abandoning her child.
