Mystery Files (2010)
S01E04 Royal Murder
Episode Overview
The fate of the Princes in the Tower remains one of Britain’s oldest enigmas. Sons of Edward IV and heirs to the throne, they are believed to have been murdered by their uncle, Richard III. However, the evidence supporting this claim is tenuous at best. Two skeletons discovered in the Tower of London are thought to belong to the princes, but their identification is highly contested. Mystery Files revisits the case, questioning whether Shakespeare’s portrayal of Richard III as a malevolent villain is merely Tudor propaganda. In late June 1483, Princes Edward and Richard vanished from the Tower's confines while under the care of their uncle Richard, who stood to gain the throne upon their disappearance. As rumors of their alleged murder spread throughout England, questions arose: Were the princes killed, and if so, by whom?
