Episode Overview
On December 16, 1916, Grigory Rasputin, a self-proclaimed healer and confidant to the Tsar, was shot in the back of the head, marking his deadly downfall. His adversaries feared that his influence over the Romanov family had reached dangerous levels. This narrative unfolds the journey of a humble peasant who ascended to the heights of Russian aristocracy, gaining the favor of the Tsar and Tsarina, ultimately becoming one of the nation’s most powerful figures. However, his sway over the royal family drew the ire of many, leading to his tragic fall from grace and gruesome end. Rasputin’s assassination is attributed to a cabal of Russian nobles, including Vladimir Purishkevich, Felix Yusupov, and Dmitri Pavlovich, all of whom later confessed to their roles in the plot.
