Julia connects with a Stanford professor who is also an author, and their friendship ignites her passion for writing. Seeking his feedback, she is crushed when he tells her her work isn’t strong. However, after learning that her mother only pursued music after college, Julia understands it’s premature to settle on her future path. Meanwhile, Avery Baltus, an old colleague of Diana, approaches Claudia with hopes of nurturing her musical talent on the violin. Eager to prove herself, Claudia ignores Charlie’s advice to take her time and decides to apply to the conservatory. Meanwhile, Bailey has chickenpox, and despite Sarah's efforts to care for him, he resists her help, leading to a quarrel. Nonetheless, Sarah’s deep affection keeps her from staying angry for long.
