Time Team (1994)
S11E09 Fertile Soils, Rich Archaeology - Wittenham Clumps, Oxfordshire
Episode Overview
Across the British countryside, numerous Iron Age hill forts can be found. In Oxfordshire, a local archaeology team is excavating one such fort but lacks the funds to explore a larger neighboring site just 200 meters away, where both Roman and Iron Age artifacts have previously been discovered. They wonder about the connection, if any, between the two locations. The geophysics team spots a promising target—a square enclosure on the hillside. However, before they can proceed, they must conduct a manual search for great crested newts, a rare and protected species. On the second day, John's team uncovers something potentially significant: a Roman church featuring a semicircular apse. They are joined by Tim Allen from Oxford Archaeology and osteoarchaeologist Angela Boyle.
