S06E13 Montravers Estate (Part 2) - Nevis, West Indies
Episode Overview
The team travels to the small Caribbean island of Nevis, invited by historian David Small, for a six-day excavation focused on the history of sugar production and slavery. Their target is the overgrown Montravers Estate, once owned by the affluent 18th-century Bristolian, John Prater Pinney. Robin heads to Bristol University to delve into the extensive records. Meanwhile, back on Nevis, pottery specialist David Barker examines various pottery shards, primarily dating back to the 1840s. Phil ventures to the nearby island of St. Kitts to assist in processing sugar from cane, which was traditionally milled using oxen. Molasses, a byproduct, was fermented to create rum. In the dense jungle, Stewart searches for a former slave village, joined by local historian David Rollinson.
