Sipowicz and Simone take on the investigation of a murdered pregnant woman, with only charred remains left behind, leaving them with limited evidence to work with. At the same time, Sipowicz becomes increasingly worried when his good friend, Dan Breen, suffers a brutal beating at the hands of his mentally challenged son, Danny.
