Most Haunted (2002)
S03E10 Galleries Of Justice
Episode Overview
Nestled in Nottingham's Lace Market, this Grade II Georgian-listed building holds a unique place in British legal history as the sole location in the country where one could be arrested, tried, and executed all in the same venue. Since 1375, it has served as a court, witnessing the sentencing of countless individuals to hang on its front steps. The stunning Victorian Civil Courtroom, a centerpiece of the Galleries, dates back to 1887 and operated until 1986, hosting numerous high-profile libel and divorce trials. Additionally, a gaol has existed here since 1449, with its extensive cells and corridors once housing both the condemned and those facing deportation to Australia. Recently, medieval tunnels were uncovered beneath the building. Today, it operates as an award-winning museum, showcasing the Courtroom and more.
