Most Haunted (2002)
S03E08 Schooner Hotel
Episode Overview
The Schooner Hotel is located in Alnmouth, a quaint coastal village in Northumberland, at the river Aln's mouth. Once a bustling seaport, it welcomed ships from around the world bringing in grain and coal. Schooners, known for their speed and versatility, were commonly used for fishing and trading, particularly with the Baltic region. While it served as a legitimate trading hub, Alnmouth also had a notorious reputation as a refuge for smugglers and outlaws. John Wesley, the Methodist Church's founder, described it as "a small seaport town famous for its wickedness." The hotel itself, a designated 17th-century coaching inn, has been the heart of Alnmouth for over 300 years. Distinguished guests like Charles Dickens, Basil Rathbone, Douglas Bader, and King George III have graced its halls. Although the hotel’s history is not thoroughly recorded, numerous tales of murders, suicides, and massacres surround it.
