Kathy Warren, a private nurse for the St. John family, found herself in a dire situation when Peter St. John was murdered one night while she was away. As the main suspect, she sought the help of attorney Ben Matlock, offering him her engagement ring as payment for his services. When Lacey St. John informed A.D.A. Julie March that the ring had been taken from their house, Matlock began to sense that something was amiss within the St. John household, leading him to suspect that someone was not being truthful.
