She began her artistic journey as a dancer at the renowned Moulin Rouge in Paris and gained notoriety in 1930 when she was crowned Miss Paris, a title that stirred controversy due to her status as a mother.

Romance made her film debut in 1931 with a brief appearance in "La Chienne."
