Plot
Monsieur Victor appears to be the perfect citizen in Toulon, running a respectable shop and cherishing his devoted wife. However, he secretly operates as a receiver of stolen goods, engaging with dangerous criminals. His carefully maintained façade unravels when a partner threatens to expose him, leading Victor to panic and commit murder with a shoemaker’s tool. The crime is pinned on an innocent shoemaker, who receives a ten-year sentence. Seven years later, the shoemaker escapes from prison and returns to Toulon, where Victor’s secret past is on the verge of being revealed.
