Rie Miyazawa

Rie Miyazawa, a prominent Japanese actress and former teen idol, is celebrated as one of the leading figures in the Japanese film industry. Her extensive career is marked by significant accomplishments, including six Japan Academy Film Prizes and three Kinema Junpo Awards.

Miyazawa's journey began in the modeling world, gaining early fame as the face of Mitsui Rehouse. She made her acting debut at the age of 16 in the 1988 film "Seven Day's War," a performance that earned her the Japan Academy Award for Newcomer of the Year. In 1989, she ventured into music with her single "Dream Rush," and the following year showcased her talent on the prestigious Kōhaku Uta Gassen television special.

Rising to stardom during the early Heisei era, Miyazawa sparked controversy with her 1991 nude photography book "Santa Fe," which became a bestseller, selling 1.5 million copies. Her personal life garnered media attention, including a notable engagement to sumo wrestler Takanohana and her struggles with mental health, which led to a hiatus in 1996, during which she relocated to San Diego.

Miyazawa returned to acting in the late 1990s, appearing in Taiwanese films such as "The Cabbie" (2000) and "Peony Pavilion" (2001). Her comeback was solidified with the critically acclaimed "The Twilight Samurai" (2002), a role that remains a defining moment in her career. She continued to achieve success with films like "The Face of Jizo" and "Tony Takitani" (2004), as well as receiving accolades for "Pale Moon" (2014) and "Her Love Boils Bathwater" (2016).
