Guy Marchand (May 22, 1937 – December 15, 2023) was a renowned French actor, musician, and singer, celebrated primarily for his portrayal of the fictional private detective Nestor Burma in television series. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he featured in over 100 films.

Born in the 19th arrondissement of Paris to a scrap dealer and a homemaker, Guy Émile Marchand grew up in Belleville during the German Occupation of France. He contracted tuberculosis at just ten years old, which led to time spent recuperating in Sarthe, where he developed a passion for horseback riding that lasted throughout his life. His early exposure to cinema came from frequent visits to the Danube cinema. As a student at Lycée Voltaire, he played clarinet in nightclubs in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Marchand served in the military in a parachute division at the École des troupes aéroportées (BETAP) in Pau, achieving the rank of sous-lieutenant. He served as a liaison officer in the Algerian War and contributed to the film Le Jour le plus long as a parachute consultant, which sparked his interest in acting. In 1965, he gained fame as a crooner with his hit "La Passionata" and released several albums thereafter.

While often cast in supporting roles, he earned acclaim for his performance as an inspector alongside Lino Ventura in Claude Miller's Garde à vue, winning a César Award in 1982. That same year, he began his decade-long portrayal of Nestor Burma in the television adaptation. Some of his notable films include Coup de torchon (1981) and Cousin, Cousine (1975). In 2007, he published his autobiography, Le Guignol des Buttes-Chaumont, reflecting on his childhood and varied career. Guy Marchand passed away in Cavaillon at the age of 86.
