Max Baer Jr.
Maximilian Adalbert "Max" Baer Jr. (born December 4, 1937) is a multifaceted American entertainer recognized for his contributions as an actor, screenwriter, producer, and director. He gained fame for his portrayal of Jethro Bodine, the charmingly naïve nephew of Jed Clampett, played by Buddy Ebsen, on the iconic television series The Beverly Hillbillies. Following the passing of Donna Douglas in January 2015, Baer stands as the last surviving member of the show's principal cast.
Baer's journey in performance began at a young age, landing his first role in Goldilocks and the Three Bears at the Blackpool Pavilion in 1949. He transitioned to professional acting in 1960 at Warner Bros., making guest appearances on various popular TV shows, including Maverick, Surfside 6, Hawaiian Eye, Cheyenne, The Roaring 20s, and 77 Sunset Strip. His career truly flourished in 1962 when he joined The Beverly Hillbillies, where his portrayal of Jethro became his defining role and a hallmark of television history.
Throughout the series' nine-season run, Baer diversified his portfolio with roles in shows like Vacation Playhouse and Love, American Style, and he also starred in the western film A Time for Killing.
