Zhang Fengyi
Zhang Fengyi (张丰毅), born on September 1, 1956, in Changsha, Hunan, is a prominent Chinese actor renowned for his compelling performances in film and theater. He gained significant recognition for his portrayal of a troubled stage performer in the critically acclaimed film "Farewell My Concubine," a story that intertwines personal desires with the backdrop of political strife. Additionally, he captivated audiences with his portrayal of Jing Ke in "The Emperor and the Assassin" and brought to life the iconic warlord Cao Cao in the epic film "Red Cliff."
Zhang's journey began in Tanghe, Henan, but at just one month old, he relocated to Dongchuan, Yunnan, with his father, a war veteran. He left high school in 1971 to pursue a career in the performing arts, starting with a local opera troupe and later joining a singing and dancing ensemble. In 1978, Zhang enrolled in the acting department of the prestigious Beijing Film Academy, where he honed his craft. His film career took off in 1980 with his debut in "Treasure Hunting in the Desert," but it was his standout performance in "Rickshaw Boy" the following year that solidified his reputation as a rising star in the Chinese film industry.
