John Meillon
John Meillon (1 May 1934 – 11 August 1989) was a prominent Australian actor celebrated for his memorable performances, particularly as Walter Reilly in the iconic films *Crocodile Dundee* and its sequel, *Crocodile Dundee II*. His voice became familiar to many through his long-running narration for Victoria Bitter beer commercials, a role he maintained until his passing.
Born in Mosman, Sydney, Meillon's foray into acting began at just eleven years old with ABC's radio serial "Stumpy." He took to the stage the following year and joined the Shakespeare Touring Company at the age of sixteen. During the years 1959 to 1965, he honed his craft in England, reflecting the experiences of many actors of his era.
Meillon also made notable appearances in Australian television, including a recurring character in the series *My Name's McGooley, What's Yours?* and guest roles in the beloved series *Skippy* in the late 1960s. His compelling performance in *The Fourth Wish* (1976) earned him the AFI Award for Best Actor.
Known for his rich baritone voice, he excelled in voice work, particularly for the Victoria Bitter commercials, which became a staple of Australian advertising.
In his personal life, Meillon married actress June Salter in 1958, though they divorced in 1971. He later wed actress Bunny Gibson on 5 April 1972, and they welcomed another son together.
