Elke Sommer, originally named Elke von Schletz, is a celebrated German actress, entertainer, and artist known for her prominent roles in Hollywood films. Born on November 5, 1940, she was discovered by renowned director Vittorio De Sica while vacationing in Italy, leading to her film debut in 1958. That same year, she adopted the more accessible surname "Sommer," enhancing her appeal to international audiences. By the early 1960s, Sommer had transitioned to Hollywood, quickly establishing herself as a notable sex symbol and one of the era's most popular pin-up models, gracing the pages of Playboy magazine multiple times, including the September 1964 and December 1967 issues.
Throughout the 1960s, Sommer starred in nearly 100 film and television productions, including iconic titles such as *A Shot in the Dark* with Peter Sellers, *The Art of Love* alongside James Garner and Dick Van Dyke, and *The Wrecking Crew* with Dean Martin. In 1964, she received the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer Actress for her role in *The Prize*, which featured Paul Newman.
