Marsha Hunt, born Marcia Virginia Hunt on October 17, 1917, and passing away on September 7, 2022, was a multifaceted American actress, model, and activist whose remarkable career spanned nearly eight decades. Her journey through Hollywood was notably impacted by the blacklisting during the McCarthy era in the 1950s.

Initially hesitant about a career in film, Hunt signed a seven-year contract with Paramount Pictures in June 1935 at just 17 years old. Her discovery came while visiting her uncle in Los Angeles when comedian Zeppo Marx recognized her from a newspaper photo, leading to a screen test for The Virginia Judge. At Paramount, she predominantly took on ingenue roles, appearing in 12 films between 1935 and 1938, including significant roles in Easy to Take and Born to the West, where she starred alongside a then-unknown John Wayne.

After her contract ended in 1938, Hunt transitioned to B-films with smaller studios like Republic Pictures and Monogram Pictures, before gaining recognition in summer stock theatre in New York City. She eventually landed a notable role in MGM's These Glamour Girls, crafted specifically for her, followed by key performances in Pride and Prejudice and Cheers for Miss Bishop.

In 1941, Hunt joined MGM, where her talent shone through in films like Blossoms in the Dust. Her performance earned praise from director Mervyn LeRoy, and she was recognized by exhibitors as one of the "Stars of Tomorrow." Her role in None Shall Escape marked a significant cinematic depiction of the Holocaust, solidifying her legacy in both film and social activism.
