William Ching

William Ching, who was also known by the names William Brooks, Bill Ching, and William Brooks Ching, was born on October 2, 1913, in St. Louis, Missouri. He gained recognition as a character actor in the United States during the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s, participating in nearly 20 films and various television shows. Among his most notable performances was his role in the 1950 film noir D.O.A., directed by Rudolph Maté, where he played Halliday, a character who secretly poisons an accountant visiting San Francisco. Additionally, Ching is remembered for his portrayal of the domineering boyfriend of Katharine Hepburn in George Cukor's 1952 comedy Pat and Mike, alongside Spencer Tracy.

Ching initially embarked on his career as a professional singer, showcasing his talents in musical productions, including Rodgers and Hammerstein's Allegro in 1947. He made his film debut in 1946 and subsequently signed with Republic Pictures in 1947. Over the next twelve years, he predominantly featured in westerns and dramatic roles. His final notable acting appearance was in a 1959 episode of the television series 77 Sunset Strip.

William Ching passed away from congestive heart failure on July 1, 1989, in Tustin, California, at the age of 75. He was laid to rest at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, California, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances in American cinema.
