Brenda De Banzie

Brenda D. M. De Banzie was a prominent British actress known for her work on both stage and screen. Born to Edward De Banzie and his second wife Dorothy, whom he married in 1908, Brenda grew up in Salford, where her family resided in 1911. She gained significant recognition for her portrayal of Maggie Hobson in David Lean's acclaimed film adaptation of Hobson's Choice (1954), sharing the screen with notable stars John Mills and Charles Laughton. Her most distinguished film role came in 1960 when she played Phoebe Rice, the unfortunate wife of comedian Archie Rice, portrayed by Laurence Olivier, in the cinematic rendition of The Entertainer.

Brenda's talents extended to the theater, where she made a notable appearance on Broadway in John Osborne's original play, earning a Tony Award nomination for her performance.
