Spike (1952–1962) was a charismatic yellow Mastador, a delightful mix of Mastiff and Labrador Retriever, who gained fame as a talented canine actor. He is most celebrated for his role as the titular character in the beloved 1957 film *Old Yeller*, where he shared the screen with notable actors such as Tommy Kirk, Beverly Washburn, Dorothy McGuire, Fess Parker, and Kevin Corcoran. Spike's journey began when he was rescued as a puppy from a shelter in Van Nuys, California, eventually becoming the beloved companion and student of the renowned animal trainer Frank Weatherwax.

In addition to *Old Yeller*, Spike's impressive filmography includes his portrayal of Patrasche in the 1959 adaptation of *A Dog of Flanders*, alongside Donald Crisp and David Ladd. He also starred as King in the 1956 horror film *The She-Creature*.
