Amy Irving
Amy Davis Irving, born on September 10, 1953, is a renowned American actress and singer celebrated for her work across film, stage, and television. Her impressive career includes winning an Obie Award, receiving two Golden Globe nominations, and earning an Academy Award nomination.
Raised in Palo Alto, California, Irving is the daughter of actors Jules Irving and Priscilla Pointer. She spent her childhood in San Francisco before moving to New York City during her teenage years. At just 13, she made her Broadway debut in "The Country Wife" (1965-1966). She honed her craft at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, making her film debut in Brian De Palma's "Carrie" (1976) and later starring in the supernatural thriller "The Fury" (1978).
Irving garnered critical acclaim in the Broadway production of "Amadeus" (1980) and achieved an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Yentl" (1983). She won an Obie Award for her Off-Broadway performance in "The Road to Mecca" (1988) and received a Golden Globe nomination for "Crossing Delancey" (1988). Her Broadway credits include "Broken Glass" (1994) and "Three Sisters" (1997). In film, she appeared in "Deconstructing Harry" (1997) and "Traffic" (2000), among others. Most recently, she rejoined director Steven Soderbergh for the 2018 horror film "Unsane."
