Renowned for her exceptional performances, she gained immense recognition for originating the role of Desiree Armfeldt in the Broadway production of A Little Night Music, a portrayal that earned her a Tony Award. Additionally, she charmed audiences as Winifred Banks in Disney's classic film Mary Poppins. Following the passing of Olivia de Havilland in 2020, Johns became the oldest living nominee for an Academy Award in any acting category.
