He gained significant recognition for his portrayal of Admiral Piett in the iconic films Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

Born in Manchester, Colley’s career included a brief but memorable appearance as Jesus in the 1979 comedy Life of Brian, as well as a role in the Monty Python-associated series Ripping Yarns in the episode "The Testing of Eric Olthwaite," alongside Michael Palin. A skilled Shakespearean performer, he played the Duke of Vienna in the BBC Television Shakespeare adaptation of Measure for Measure, also released in 1979.

In the realm of film, Colley took on a notable role in Clint Eastwood's Firefox, portraying a Soviet Colonel responsible for safeguarding the advanced aircraft and its secrets.
