Adrienne Corri
Adrienne Corri, born on November 13, 1930, in Edinburgh, Scotland, is a distinguished actress of Italian descent. She is perhaps most recognized for her impactful performance as Mrs. Alexander, a rape victim, in Stanley Kubrick's iconic 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange." Corri's impressive filmography also includes her portrayal of Valerie in Jean Renoir's "The River" (1951) and the role of Lara's mother in David Lean's classic "Dr. Zhivago" (1965). Throughout the 1950s and 1970s, she appeared in a variety of horror and suspense films, such as "Devil Girl from Mars," "The Tell-Tale Heart," "A Study in Terror," and "Vampire Circus." Corri also played Therese Duval in "Revenge of the Pink Panther," and featured in the 1969 science fiction film "Moon Zero Two." In theater, she starred as Countess Olivia in a 1969 adaptation of "Twelfth Night," directed by John Sichel, alongside Alec Guinness's Malvolio.
On television, Corri appeared as Angelica in "Sword of Freedom" (1958), had a recurring role in "A Family at War," and portrayed Mena in the "Doctor Who" episode "The Leisure Hive." Notably, she responded to audience disapproval during the premiere of John Osborne's "The World Of Paul Slickey" with a bold gesture.
Corri has been married twice, first to actor Daniel Massey (1961-1967) and later to Derek Fowlds. Her literary contribution, "The Search for Gainsborough" (1984), showcased her extensive research, proposing 1726 as the birth year of the famed artist.
