Tyne Daly
Ellen Tyne Daly, born on February 21, 1946, is a distinguished American actress celebrated for her significant contributions to both theater and television. She is particularly renowned for her portrayal of Detective Mary Beth Lacey in the acclaimed series Cagney & Lacey, a role that garnered her four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. In recognition of her exceptional talent, Daly has received a total of six Emmy Awards and a Tony Award, and she was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 2011.
Daly launched her career in summer stock in New York before making her Broadway debut in 1967 with the play That Summer – That Fall. Her Broadway achievements include a standout performance in the 1989 revival of Gypsy, which earned her the 1990 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Beyond her iconic television roles, she portrayed Alice Henderson in Christy, winning an Emmy in 1996, and Maxine Gray in Judging Amy, which secured her a sixth Emmy in 2003.
Daly's impressive theater repertoire also includes roles in The Seagull, Rabbit Hole, and Mothers and Sons, all of which earned her Tony nominations. She notably played the legendary opera singer Maria Callas in the play Master Class, both on Broadway and in London. Additionally, she appeared as Anne Marie Hoag in Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming, further showcasing her versatile talent.
