Geneviève Page

Geneviève Bonjean (13 December 1927 – 14 February 2025), widely recognized as Geneviève Page, was a distinguished French actress whose illustrious career spanned over five decades, featuring a remarkable array of films across both French and English-speaking cinema. Born in Paris into a culturally rich family, she was the daughter of art collector Jacques Paul Bonjean and Germaine (née Lipman) Bonjean, whose Jewish ancestry included a prominent family that founded LIP.

From a young age, Page was immersed in an artistic environment, with notable figures like her godfather, Christian Dior, influencing her upbringing. At just twelve, she showcased her remarkable intellect by reading Voltaire, and her talents flourished in the theater, where she performed at the Théâtre National Populaire and attended the Conservatory.

Her cinematic journey began with a role in *Pas de pitié pour les femmes* (1951), followed by her memorable portrayal of Madame de Pompadour in *Fanfan la Tulipe* (1952). Throughout her career, she collaborated with renowned actors and directors, appearing in films such as *El Cid* (1961) alongside Charlton Heston and *Belle de Jour* (1967) with Catherine Deneuve, directed by Luis Buñuel. Page's versatile talent was evident in her later roles in *The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes* (1970) and *Beyond Therapy* (1987).

Educated at École du Louvre and Conservatoire national des arts et métiers, Page was married to Jean-Claude Bujard from 1959 until his passing in 2011, with whom she had two children. She continued to act in theater throughout the 1980s and 1990s, leaving behind a legacy of artistic excellence when she passed away in Paris at the age of 97.
