Kaori Momoi (桃井 かおり, Momoi Kaori), born on April 8, 1952, in Tokyo, Japan, is a distinguished actress whose impactful career spans over five decades and includes more than 60 films. At the age of 12, she ventured to London to study dance at the Royal Ballet Academy. After three years, she returned to Japan to complete her training at the Bungakuza School of Dramatic Arts.
Momoi made her film debut in 1971 with Kon Ichikawa's *Ai Futatabi (To Love Again)*, marking the beginning of her illustrious journey in cinema. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with some of Japan's most acclaimed directors, including Akira Kurosawa in *Kagemusha* (1980), Shohei Imamura in *Why Not?* (1981), and Takashi Miike in *Sukiyaki Western Django*. Her international work includes appearances in Alexander Sokurov’s *The Sun* (2005) and Rob Marshall’s *Memoirs of a Geisha*.
Momoi's performances have earned her numerous accolades, including two Japanese Academy Awards for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress. She was also honored as Best Actress at the 1983 New York International Film Festival for her role in *Giwaku (Suspicion)*.
Beyond acting, Momoi is a multifaceted talent, engaging in producing, directing, screenwriting, and design. She has released around 15 music albums and is a respected essayist. Her latest project is the film *Amaya*, directed by Maris Martinson, which premiered on September 17, 2010.
