Raquel Welch
Jo Raquel Welch (née Tejada; September 5, 1940 – February 15, 2023) was a celebrated American actress known for her dynamic performances and striking beauty. Welch gained initial fame with her role in the science fiction film Fantastic Voyage (1966), which led to a long-term contract with 20th Century Fox. Notably, her contract was temporarily transferred to Hammer Film Productions, where she starred in One Million Years B.C. (1966). Despite having only a few lines, her iconic appearance in a doe-skin bikini catapulted her to international sex symbol status, with her image becoming a best-selling poster.
Throughout the late 1960s and 1970s, Welch showcased her versatility in a variety of films, including Bedazzled (1967), Bandolero! (1968), and The Three Musketeers (1973), where her portrayal of strong female characters helped redefine the traditional sex symbol. Noteworthy for her role in 100 Rifles (1969), she made history with a groundbreaking interracial love scene alongside Jim Brown. Welch's performance as Constance Bonacieux in The Three Musketeers earned her a Golden Globe Award in 1974, and she was later nominated for another Golden Globe for Right to Die (1987). Her final film appearance was in How to Be a Latin Lover (2017). Recognized as one of the "100 Sexiest Stars in Film History" by Empire magazine in 1995, Welch remains an enduring icon in cinema history.
