Kate Beckinsale
Kathrin Romany Beckinsale, widely known as Kate Beckinsale, was born on July 26, 1973, in London, England. A talented actress and model, she first attracted attention while studying at Oxford University, where she made her film debut in the adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Throughout the 1990s, Beckinsale showcased her versatile acting skills, most notably as the lead in the 1996 BBC series Emma.
Transitioning to American cinema in the late '90s, she appeared in smaller films such as The Last Days of Disco (1998) and Brokedown Palace (1999). Her big break came in 2001 when she starred alongside Ben Affleck in Pearl Harbor, which catapulted her to international fame. Following this success, she featured in a variety of films including the romantic comedy Serendipity (2001), Tiptoes (2003), The Aviator (2004), and Click (2006).
Beckinsale is perhaps best recognized for her role as Selene in the Underworld franchise (2003–2016), solidifying her status in the action genre with films like Van Helsing (2004), Whiteout (2009), Contraband (2012), and Total Recall (2012). In 2016, her performance in the period comedy Love & Friendship earned her a Critics' Choice Movie Award nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy.
